Checking tyre tread

Check your tyre tread regularly to find out whether a tyre needs replacing. All passenger, light truck, and medium commercial tyres have tread wear indicator bars molded into the tread. These bars are located at the bottoms of the tread grooves in several locations around the tyre.

Συγκεκριμένα όταν ένα ελαστικό είναι υποπιεσμένο κατά 20% (ποσοστό που στα σύγχρονα ελαστικά δύσκολα διακρίνεται με το μάτι) έχει 30% λιγότερη αντοχή στα χτυπήματα (πεζοδρόμια, λακκούβες κτλ), ενώ υποπιεσμένο κατά 25% η αντοχή του ελαστικού μειώνεται κατά 50%!! Αυτό καθιστά το ελαστικό πολύ επικίνδυνο.

Introducing the Regulation (EC) No 1222/2009 for tire labeling

In 2012, a new standardized tire label will be introduced under the Regulation (EC) No 1222/2009 regarding the labeling of tires. The aim of this label is to better inform consumers on 3 key tire performance attributes: on the safety performance of tires by addressing wet grip performance, and on environmental aspects by providing transparency on fuel efficiency and exterior rolling noise.
